Engineers, dreamers and do-ers who have scaled several software businesses over the past two decades. Now scaling the venture firm we always wanted.
We are a pan-European early-stage venture capital firm investing across Europe as a team of 12 with 5 nationalities and offices in London, Helsinki, and Amsterdam. With an entrepreneurial background from building several category-defining software businesses, we engage with founders to build and scale global companies delivering data-intensive and delicious software solutions.
Our pioneering role in driving data-intensive software ecosystems began with companies like MySQL (acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2008) and MariaDB, and continues by powering initiatives like DataSeries, a curated network of thought leaders in the data space.
In 2009, the firm was established by the founders and early investors of MySQL, Michael “Monty” Widenius, Patrik Backman and Ralf Wahlsten, later joined by Tom Henriksson. In 2019, Ekaterina Almasque joined OpenOcean as a partner from the investment team at Samsung.
