Oppex is the world’s largest database of public bidding contests.
Oppex, the Helsinki based startup providing an online tool for companies to find cross-border sales opportunities in the public bidding contents, announces having raised a $2.3 million financing round to accelerate its growth. Joining the existing investors are Helsinki’s OpenOcean Capital and London-based Initial Capital. Companies using Oppex, from small export companies to Fortune 500 corporations, use the service to find new business across Europe and throughout the world. Oppex is the largest search engine and database for public bidding contests – which are used by the public sector and any other organization buying products and services through a tendering process.
The global value of public tenders is estimated to be at least $10,000 billion.
Oppex is digging into this huge market and has quickly grown its database that now has close to five million tenders. Popular searches on Oppex are goods and services related to healthcare, security and construction industries. However, the public sector is buying everything imaginable: From champagne and swords to white running shoes; and from lab animals to fire trucks and missiles. “Oppex aggregates tenders from every possible industry. For example the value of fire truck tenders you can find annually on Oppex is close to $600 million. And that’s a tiny fraction of the tenders we have in our database.”, says Ville Heinonen, CEO of Oppex. “We wanted to simplify the experience of finding new business opportunities into a clean, easy to use interface – finding relevant tenders should be as easy as using Google”.
Already tens of thousands of companies use Oppex frequently to find new business opportunities. One of the UK companies benefitting from it is the world-renowned architecture and urban design firm Farrells, the designers of the British intelligence service MI6’s headquarters in London, and landmark projects around the world. Farrells’ senior transport architect Austen Smithcomments: “Oppex has helped us cast our net wider in the search for projects – the number of leads have increased 25%. We have been made aware of and bid on a number of projects outside of our usual geographical sphere. And we have already won one major bid found via Oppex.” At Slush 2015 Oppex has been selected as a Top-50 Growth Stage and Top-25 B2B company, out of over 1600 participating startups.
